  Public Confession

All: We confess that we have not always demonstrated the truth of our calling as saints in our words and deeds. We have not spoken with grace, as we are commanded, nor have we always shown sufficient patience toward others.

We have not kept our minds pure, but have, at times, given way to destructive thoughts. We have not shown sufficient concern for Your Word and have not, therefore, read it and meditated upon it. We have allowed many things to distract us from our pursuit of holiness.

For all these things, we ask forgiveness and express our sorrow. For all our weaknesses, we ask for strength. We rest in the Savior and Him alone for salvation.

Children: Father in heaven, thank You for making us Your children. Thank You for all the wonderful things You have done for us. Please forgive all our sins and help us to love only what is good.

  Words of Assurance                                        Colossians 3:4-7

When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory. Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry. For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience, and in them you also once walked, when you were living in them.

*Declaring Our Faith                  The Larger Catechism (41, 42)

Why was our Mediator called Jesus?

Our Mediator was called Jesus because He saves His people from their sins.

Why was our Mediator called Christ?

Our Mediator was called Christ because He was anointed with the Holy Ghost above measure; and so set apart, and fully furnished with all authority and ability, to execute the offices of prophet, priest, and king of His church, in the estate both of His humiliation and exaltation.

  Pastoral Prayer

*Responsive Reading                                    Proverbs 12:15-28

The way of a fool is right in his own eyes,

But a wise man is he who listens to counsel.

A fool’s anger is known at once,

But a prudent man conceals dishonor.

He who speaks truth tells what is right,

But a false witness, deceit.

There is one who speaks rashly like the thrusts of a sword,

But the tongue of the wise brings healing.

Truthful lips will be established forever,

But a lying tongue is only for a moment.

Deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil,

But counselors of peace have joy.

No harm befalls the righteous,

But the wicked are filled with trouble.

Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord,

But those who deal faithfully are His delight.

A prudent man conceals knowledge,

But the heart of fools proclaims folly.

The hand of the diligent will rule,

But the slack hand will be put to forced labor.

Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs it down,

But a good word makes it glad.

The righteous is a guide to his neighbor,

But the way of the wicked leads them astray.

A lazy man does not roast his prey,

But the precious possession of a man is diligence.

In the way of righteousness is life,

And in its pathway there is no death.
