Public Confession
All: We make this confession with the full assurance of Your forgiveness, O God. In our Savior, we know we have been shown abundant mercy. Forgive our shortsightedness when we have lived for the day, but have not considered the long-term consequences of our actions.
Forgive those words we spoke that wounded another and only added to a burden already causing distress. Forgive us for those times when we closed our heart to one in need. Cause us to be people who delight in showing grace to those you bring into our lives.
Children: Thank You, heavenly Father, for all You have done for us. Thank You for our families, for our church, and for our Savior. Please forgive all our sins in His name.
Words of Assurance 1 John 5:10-13
The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself; the one who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning His Son. And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.

*Declaring Our Faith The Larger Catechism (65, 66)
What special benefits do the members of the invisible church enjoy by Christ?
The members of the invisible church by Christ enjoy union and communion with Him in grace and glory.
What is that union which the elect have with Christ?
The union which the elect have with Christ is the work of God’s grace, whereby they are spiritually and mystically, yet really and inseparably, joined to Christ as their head and husband; which is done in their effectual calling.
Pastoral Prayer
*Responsive Reading Proverbs 15:11-20
Sheol and Abaddon lie open before the Lord,
How much more the hearts of men!
A scoffer does not love one who reproves him,
He will not go to the wise.
A joyful heart makes a cheerful face,
But when the heart is sad, the spirit is broken.
The mind of the intelligent seeks knowledge,
But the mouth of fools feeds on folly.
All the days of the afflicted are bad,
But a cheerful heart has a continual feast.
Better is a little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and turmoil with it.
Better is a dish of vegetables where love is than a fattened ox served with hatred.
A hot-tempered man stirs up strife,
But the slow to anger calms a dispute.
The way of the lazy is as a hedge of thorns,
But the path of the upright is a highway.
A wise son makes a father glad,
But a foolish man despises his mother.
