About Westminster Presbyterian Church
"They were continually devoting themselves to the apostle's teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer." Acts 2:42.
The Bible describes the life of the early Christian Church. The early Christians were committed first to understanding the doctrines of the faith that the apostles had learned from Jesus Christ. Those understandings of how God has revealed His person, His character, His law, and His grace were crucial to the church. Over time, the church became corrupted in several core doctrines. The sixteenth century Reformation of the church was a return to the same apostolic beliefs and practices that had defined the early church. Westminster Presbyterian Church affirms and practices the biblical values that arose during the Reformation. At WPC...
The Bible is Taught
The foundation of Christianity is a solid understanding of the Bible, which is the inerrant Word
of God. The Westminster Confession of Faith states, "The whole counsel of God concerning all things
necessary for His own glory, man's salvation, faith and life, is either expressly set down in Scripture,
or ... may be deduced from Scripture."God is Worshiped
God is holy over all, and the elements of the public assembly to worship god must be those given in
the Bible. God is to be approached both with reverence and with joy. This is reflected in our order
of worship.Jesus Christ is Remembered
"Do this in remembrance of Me" (Luke 22:19). This is what Jesus Christ said when He instituted the
Lord's Supper (or "communion"), which reminds us of the sacrifice of Christ, which atones for sins.
We celebrate communion every week, and all baptized members of a Bible-believing church are invited
to participate with us.Elders and Deacons Serve
The biblical model of church leadership is for the local church to be served by elders and deacons.
(That's the definition of the term "Presbyterian," from the Greek word translated as "elder," "bishop,"
or "presbyter.")Elders and deacons are men who have met biblical qualifications (1 Tim. 3) and minister to the spiritual (elders) and physical (deacons) needs of the church. Families Worship Together
Throughout history, God has dealt with His people through covenants. One of these covenant
relationships is with families. Reflecting that model, the whole family participates together in
the assembly for worship.
Westminster Presbyterian Church is a member of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA)
Westminster Presbyterian Church's beliefs are contained in a set of documents that include the
Westminster Confession of Faith and the Larger and Shorter Catechisms, which date to
1647. The Confession and Catechisms contain a brief, systematic summary of the key doctrines of the
Bible.
The "Solas" simply state that salvation is based on Scripture alone (not on any ideas of man), by grace alone (not by any of man's merit), through faith alone (not by any of man's work), in Christ alone (the finished work of Jesus Christ).
