  Public Confession

All: You are the God of our salvation. In Your Son, You have provided our redemption.

Forgive us, O Lord, for caring too little about righteousness. Forgive us for all those times we acted wrongly. Forgive our quickness to condemn and our slowness to forgive. Forgive our loose tongues, and cause us to mourn the harm we bring to another’s reputation.

Make us steadfast in the pursuit of holiness, heavenly Father. Do not let us be satisfied with lives of indifference. Let the Savior be honored in our lives, day by day. Let His great name be exalted among us as we display His grace.

Children: Cause us to love Your Word, heavenly Father. Forgive us when we do what we know is wrong. Help us to honor our parents every day.

Words of Assurance                                          Psalm 84:10, 11

A day in Your courts is better than a thousand outside. I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord gives grace and glory; no good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.

*Declaring Our Faith                  The Larger Catechism (46, 47)

What was the estate of Christ’s humiliation?

The estate of Christ’s humiliation was that low condition wherein He for our sakes, emptying Himself of His glory, took upon Him the form of a servant, in His conception and birth, life, death, and after His death, until His resurrection.

How did Christ humble Himself in His conception and birth?

Christ humbled Himself in His conception and birth in that, being from all eternity the Son of God, in the bosom of the Father, He was pleased in the fullness of time to become the son of man, made of a woman of low estate, and to be born of her; with divers circumstances of more than ordinary abasement.

  Pastoral Prayer

*Responsive Reading                                    Proverbs 13:12-18

Hope deferred makes the heart sick,

But desire fulfilled is a tree of life.

The one who despises the word will be in debt to it,

But the one who fears the commandment will be rewarded.

The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life,

To turn aside from the snares of death.

Good understanding produces favor,

But the way of the treacherous is hard.

Every prudent man acts with knowledge,

But a fool displays folly.

A wicked messenger falls into adversity,

But a faithful envoy brings healing.

Poverty and shame will come to him who neglects discipline,

But he who regards reproof will be honored.
