The Lord’s Day
January 9, 2011
Some boast in chariots and some in horses,
but we will boast in the name of the Lord, our God.
(Psalm 20:7)
Prelude
Apostolic Greeting
*Call to Worship Psalm 30:4, 5
Sing praise to the Lord, you His godly ones,
And give thanks to His holy name.
For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime;
Weeping may last for the night, but a shout of joy comes in the morning.

Public Confession
Heavenly Father, have mercy on us. We have sinned by disobeying Your Word; we seek Your forgiveness. Please restore us so that we might be at peace with You. We ask this in the name of Your Son and our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Words of Comfort and Assurance Ephesians 2:8–10
By grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

Who then is the Mediator, who is in one person both very God and a righteous man?
The Mediator is our Lord Jesus Christ, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption.
Where do we learn this truth?
We learn this truth from the holy gospel, which God Himself first revealed in Paradise and afterwards published by the patriarchs and prophets, and represented by the sacrifices and other ceremonies of the law; and lastly, has fulfilled it by His only begotten Son.
Are all men then, as they perished in Adam, saved by Christ?
All men are not saved, but only those who are engrafted into Him and receive all His benefits by a true faith.
Pastoral Prayer
*Responsive Reading Psalm 31:1–8
In You, O Lord, I have taken refuge; let me never be ashamed;
In Your righteousness deliver me.
Incline Your ear to me, rescue me quickly;
Be to me a rock of strength, a stronghold to save me.
For You are my rock and my fortress;
For Your name’s sake You will lead me and guide me.
You will pull me out of the net which they have secretly laid for me,
For You are my strength.
Into Your hand I commit my spirit;
You have ransomed me, O Lord, God of truth.
I hate those who regard vain idols,
But I trust in the Lord.
I will rejoice and be glad in Your lovingkindness, because You have seen my affliction;
You have known the troubles of my soul,
And You have not given me over into the hand of the enemy;
You have set my feet in a large place.
