The Lord’s Day

March 13, 2011

For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime;

weeping may last for the night, but a shout of joy comes in the morning.

(Psalm 30:5)

Public Confession

Dear Lord, You have called us to be a holy people. Therefore, we confess that we have been overcome by temptation and have sinned against You. Our hope is in Your mercy extended to us in Jesus Christ. In His name, we ask Your forgiveness.

Words of Comfort and Assurance Hebrews 2:17, 18

Therefore, He had to be made like His brethren in all things, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted.

*Declaring Our Faith2 Heidelberg Catechism

Of what advantage to us is Christ’s ascension into heaven?

First, that He is our advocate in the presence of His Father in heaven; secondly, that we have our flesh in heaven as a sure pledge; thirdly, that He sends us His Spirit as an earnest.

Why is it added, “and sits at the right hand of God”?

Because Christ is ascended into heaven for this end, that He might appear as Head of His Church, by whom the Father governs all things.

Pastoral Prayer

*Responsive Reading Psalm 65:18

There will be silence before You, and praise in Zion, O God,

And to You the vow will be performed.

O You who hear prayer, to You all men come.

Iniquities prevail against me; as for our transgressions, You forgive them.

How blessed is the one whom You choose and bring near to You to dwell in Your courts.

We will be satisfied with the goodness of Your house, Your holy temple.

By awesome deeds You answer us in righteousness, O God of our salvation,

You who are the trust of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest sea; Who establishes the mountains by His strength, being girded with might;

Who stills the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, and the tumult of the peoples.

They who dwell in the ends of the earth stand in awe of Your signs; You make the dawn and the sunset shout for joy.
