  Public Confession

O God of all grace, hear our confession and take away our alarm. Fill our hearts with courage and let us look confidently to You for forgiveness.

We know that we have sinned in various ways this past week. We also know that we have a Savior, One who died for our sins.

Please forgive us, therefore, heavenly Father, for the transgressions we could recount. And forgive us, we pray, for those offenses we have committed in ignorance.

Let us know the peace of reconciliation and the joy of burdens lifted. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Redeemer and King.

  Words of Assurance                                1 Corinthians 1:25-31

The foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For consider your calling, brethren, that there were not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble; but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, so that no man may boast before God. But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, so that, just as it is written, “Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord.”

*Doxology                                                                          No. 731

Praise God from whom all blessings flow;

Praise Him, all creatures here below;

Praise Him above, ye heav’nly host:

Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Amen.

*Declaring Our Faith    Westminster Confession (Sacraments)

Who should be baptized?

Not only those that do actually profess faith in and obedience unto Christ, but also the infants of one, or both, believing parents, are to be baptized.

Is baptism an infallible assurance of salvation?

Although it is a great sin to condemn or neglect this ordinance, yet grace and salvation are not so inseparably annexed unto it, as that no person can be regenerated, or saved, without it; or, that all that are baptized are undoubtedly regenerated.

Is baptism to be repeated?

The sacrament of baptism is but once to be administered unto any person.

  Pastoral Prayer

*Responsive Reading                                      Proverbs 3:27-35

Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it.

Do not say to your neighbor, “Go, and come back, and tomorrow I will give it,” when you have it with you.

Do not devise harm against your neighbor, while he lives securely beside you.

Do not contend with a man without cause, if he has done you no harm.

Do not envy a man of violence and do not choose any of his ways.

For the devious are an abomination to the Lord, but He is intimate with the upright.

The curse of the Lord is on the house of the wicked,

But He blesses the dwelling of the righteous.

Though He scoffs at the scoffers, yet He gives grace to the afflicted.

The wise will inherit honor, but fools display dishonor.
