The Lord’s Day
May 29, 2011
Let Your lovingkindness, O Lord, be upon us,
according as we have hoped in You.
(Psalm 33:22)
Prelude
Apostolic Greeting
*Call to Worship Psalm 104:1–5
Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord my God, You are very great;
You are clothed with splendor and majesty, covering Yourself with light as with a cloak,
Stretching out heaven like a tent curtain.
He lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters;
He makes the clouds His chariot;
He walks upon the wings of the wind;
He makes the winds His messengers, flaming fire His ministers.
He established the earth upon its foundations, so that it will not totter forever and ever.

Public Confession
O God, our Father, You speak truth, but we speak falsely. You extend Your hand to help the needed, but we withhold our compassion. Your ways are holy, but our walk is filled with unfaithfulness. Please forgive these sins and restore our joy. We ask this in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Words of Assurance Psalm 34:2–4
My soul will make its boast in the Lord; the humble will hear it and rejoice. O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together. I sought the Lord, and He answered me, and delivered me from all my fears.

How are you assured in the Lord’s Supper that you are a partaker of that one sacrifice of Christ?
Christ promises that His body was offered on the cross for us, and His blood shed for us, as certainly as I see with my eyes the bread offered to me and the cup given to me.
What is it then to eat the body and drink the blood of Christ?
It is not only to embrace with a believing heart the sufferings and death of Christ, but also to become more and more united to His sacred body by the Holy Ghost, who dwells both in Christ and in us.
Pastoral Prayer
*Responsive Reading Psalm 94:1–11
O Lord, God of vengeance, God of vengeance, shine forth!
Rise up, O Judge of the earth, render recompense to the proud.
How long shall the wicked, O Lord, how long shall the wicked exult?
They pour forth words, they speak arrogantly; all who do wickedness vaunt themselves.
They crush Your people, O Lord, and afflict Your heritage.
They slay the widow and the stranger and murder the orphans.
They have said, “The Lord does not see, nor does the God of Jacob pay heed.”
Pay heed, you senseless among the people; and when will you understand, stupid ones?
He who planted the ear, does He not hear?
He who formed the eye, does He not see?
He who chastens the nations, will He not rebuke, even He who teaches man knowledge?
The Lord knows the thoughts of man, that they are a mere breath.
