The Lord’s Day

May 9, 2010

Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song,

and His praise in the congregation of the godly ones.

(Psalm 149:1)

Prelude

Apostolic Greeting

*Call to Worship Psalm 104:31–34

Let the glory of the Lord endure forever;

Let the Lord be glad in His works;

He looks at the earth, and it trembles;

He touches the mountains, and they smoke.

I will sing to the Lord as long as I live;

I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.

Let my meditation be pleasing to Him;

As for me, I shall be glad in the Lord.

Public Confession

Heavenly Father, we ask forgiveness for those times when we caused unrest by our words. We ask forgiveness for sometimes leaving undone the duties of true religion. And we ask forgiveness for those occasions when we neglected our call to be holy as You are holy.

Words of Assurance           Psalm 85:7–9

Show us Your lovingkindness, O Lord, and grant us Your salvation. I will hear what God the Lord will say; for He will speak peace to His people, to His godly ones; but let them not turn back to folly. Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him, that glory may dwell in our land.

What is the meaning of baptism?

Baptism consists of two parts: first, it signifies the forgiveness of sins; and second, it signifies spiritual regeneration.

On what terms are children to be baptized?

Children are baptized to attest that they are heirs of the blessing promised to the seed of believers.

What is the meaning of the Lord’s Supper?

This sacrament was instituted by Christ in order that by the communication of His body and blood, He might teach and assure us that our souls are being trained in the hope of eternal life.

How does Christ nourish us since He is in heaven, and we are pilgrims on the earth?

Christ nourishes us by the secret and miraculous agency of His Spirit, to whom it is not difficult to unite things otherwise disjoined by a distant space.

Pastoral Prayer

*Responsive Reading  Psalm 68:16

Let God arise, let His enemies be scattered,

And let those who hate Him flee before Him.

As smoke is driven away, so drive them away;

As wax melts before the fire, so let the wicked perish before God.

But let the righteous be glad; let them exult before God;

Yes, let them rejoice with gladness.

Sing to God, sing praises to His name;

Lift up a song for Him who rides through the deserts, whose name is the Lord, and exult before Him.

A father of the fatherless and a judge for the widows, is God in His holy habitation.

God makes a home for the lonely; He leads out the prisoners into prosperity, only the rebellious dwell in a parched land.
