The Lord’s Day
November 23, 2008
My eyes are toward You, O God, the Lord;
In You I take refuge; do not leave me defenseless.
(Psalm 141:8)
Prelude
Apostolic Greeting
*Call to Worship Psalm 37:1–5
Do not fret because of evildoers,
Be not envious toward wrongdoers.
For they will wither quickly like the grass
And fade like the green herb.
Trust in the Lord and do good;
Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness.
Delight yourself in the Lord;
And He will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the Lord,
Trust also in Him, and He will do it.

*Prayer of Invocation
*Hymn All Praise to God (facing page)
Public Confession
O Lord, pardon our iniquity, for it is great. Cause us to repent and turn away from all our transgressions so that sin may not become a stumbling block to us. Give us a steadfast heart and an obedient spirit; make us worthy of Your name as we rejoice in righteousness. We ask this for Christ’s sake. Amen.
Words of Assurance Hebrews 10:12–14
Christ, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, “sat down at the right hand of God,” waiting from that time onward “until his enemies be made a footstool for his feet.” For by one offering he has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.

*Declaring Our Faith2 The Kirk (part 1)
As we believe in one God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, so we firmly believe that from the beginning there has been, now is, and to the end of the world shall be, one Kirk, that is to say, one company and multitude of men chosen by God, who rightly worship and embrace Him by true faith in Jesus Christ, who is the only Head of the Kirk, even as it is the body and spouse of Christ Jesus.
Pastoral Prayer
*Responsive Reading Psalm 6
O Lord, do not rebuke me in Your anger,
Nor chasten me in Your wrath.
Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am pining away;
Heal me, O Lord, for my bones are dismayed.
And my soul is greatly dismayed;
But You, O Lord—how long?
Return, O Lord, rescue my soul;
Save me because of Your lovingkindness.
For there is no mention of You in death;
In Sheol who will give You thanks?
I am weary with my sighing;
Every night I make my bed swim, I dissolve my couch with my tears.
My eye has wasted away with grief;
It has become old because of all my adversaries.
Depart from me, all you who do iniquity,
For the Lord has heard the voice of my weeping.
The Lord has heard my supplication,
The Lord receives my prayer.
All my enemies will be ashamed and greatly dismayed;
They shall turn back, they will suddenly be ashamed.
