The Lord’s Day
October 26, 2008
All the kings of the earth will give thanks to You, O Lord, when they have heard the words of Your mouth.
And they will sing of the ways of the Lord, for great is the glory of the Lord.
(Psalm 138:4, 5)
Prelude
Apostolic Greeting
*Call to Worship Psalm 25:1–5
To You, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
O my God, in You I trust, do not let me be ashamed; do not let my enemies exult over me.
Indeed, none of those who wait for You will be ashamed;
Those who deal treacherously without cause will be ashamed.
Make me know Your ways, O Lord;
Teach me Your paths.
Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation;
For You I wait all the day.

*Prayer of Invocation
*Hymn Psalm 98A (pp. 4, 5)
Public Confession
O God, all Your ways are righteous and good. As the redeemed, we are grieved by our sin. We ask forgiveness for the sins we committed this past week—sins of speech, thought, and conduct. Forgive our unloving attitude toward others and our lack of thankfulness for what we have received. Cause us to turn from every evil way and to love that which is honorable and upright. Enable us, by Your grace, to present ourselves as living and holy sacrifices acceptable to You.
Words of Assurance 1 Peter 1:3–5
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

*Declaring Our Faith2 The Ascension
We do not doubt but that the selfsame body that was born of the virgin, was crucified, dead, and buried, and that did rise again did ascend into the heavens for the accomplishment of all things, where in our name and for our comfort Christ has received all power in heaven and earth, where He sits at the right hand of the Father, having received His kingdom, the only Advocate and Mediator for us.
Pastoral Prayer
*Responsive Reading Psalm 3
O Lord, how my adversaries have increased!
Many are rising up against me.
Many are saying of my soul, “There is no deliverance for him in God.”
But You, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the One who lifts my head.
I was crying to the Lord with my voice, and He answered me from His holy mountain.
I lay down and slept;
I awoke, for the Lord sustains me.
I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people who have set themselves against me round about.
Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God!
For You have smitten all my enemies on the cheek; You have shattered the teeth of the wicked.
Salvation belongs to the Lord;
Your blessing be upon Your people!
