The Lord’s Day

  Prelude

  Apostolic Greeting

*Call to Worship                                                       Psalm 65:1-8

There will be silence before You, and praise in Zion, O God, and to You the vow will be performed. O You who hear prayer, to You all men come. Iniquities prevail against me; as for our transgressions, You forgive them. How blessed is the one whom You choose and bring near to You to dwell in Your courts. We will be satisfied with the goodness of Your house, Your holy temple. By awesome deeds You answer us in righteousness, O God of our salvation, You who are the trust of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest sea; Who establishes the mountains by His strength, being girded with might; Who stills the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, and the tumult of the peoples. They who dwell in the ends of the earth stand in awe of Your signs; You make the dawn and the sunset shout for joy.

*Gloria Patri                                                                        No. 734

Glory be to the Father,

And to the Son,

And to the Holy Ghost;

As it was in the beginning,

Is now, and ever shall be,

World without end. Amen, Amen.

*Prayer of Invocation

*Hymn                         Hallelujah! Hallelujah!                    No. 10

  Public Confession

O God, You alone are worthy of our adoration.

We thank You for the privilege of speaking and singing Your praise.

We recognize that we are indebted to You for life itself,

And we are indebted to You for the grace in which we stand this very hour.

Because we know of the sacrifice made on our behalf,

We confidently ask for Your forgiveness of our sins.

O Lord, our sins do disturb us,

And we mourn our frequent yielding to temptation.

Forgive our transgressions of thought, speech, and conduct.

Grant to us a spirit of repentance so that we might have our joy restored.

We wait on You, heavenly Father, the One who cares for us.

And we honor You, O Christ, for giving Yourself in our place.

  Words of Assurance                                 2 Corinthians 5:17-21

If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

*Doxology                                                                            No. 731

Praise God from whom all blessings flow;

Praise Him, all creatures here below;

Praise Him above, ye heav’nly host:

Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Amen.

*Declaring Our Faith       Westminster Confession (Justification)

What happens to those effectually called by God?

Those whom God effectually calls, He also freely justifies, not by infusing righteousness into them, but by pardoning their sins and by accounting and accepting their persons as righteous, not for any thing wrought in them, or done by them, but for Christ’s sake alone.

How is faith related to our justification?

Faith is the alone instrument of justification, yet it is not alone in the person justified, but is ever accompanied with all other saving graces, and is no dead faith, but works by love.

What, specifically, did Christ do for us?

Christ, by His obedience and death, did fully discharge the debt of all those that are thus justified and did make a proper, real, and full satisfaction to His Father’s justice in their behalf.

  Pastoral Prayer

*Responsive Reading                                            Psalm 145:1-13

I will extol You, my God, O King,

And I will bless Your name forever and ever.

Every day I will bless You,

And I will praise Your name forever and ever.

Great is the Lord, and highly to be praised,

And His greatness is unsearchable.

One generation shall praise Your works to another,

And shall declare Your mighty acts.

On the glorious splendor of Your majesty and on Your wonderful works, I will meditate.

Men shall speak of the power of Your awesome acts, and I will tell of Your greatness.

They shall eagerly utter the memory of Your abundant goodness

And will shout joyfully of Your righteousness.

The Lord is gracious and merciful;

Slow to anger and great in lovingkindness.

The Lord is good to all,

And His mercies are over all His works.

All Your works shall give thanks to You, O Lord,

And Your godly ones shall bless You.

They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom

And talk of Your power;

To make known to the sons of men Your mighty acts

And the glory of the majesty of Your kingdom.

Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,

And Your dominion endures throughout all generations.
