October 8, 2006
Prelude
Apostolic Greeting
*Call to Worship Psalm 61:1-4
Hear my cry, O God; give heed to my prayer. From the end of the earth I call to You when my heart is faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For You have been a refuge for me, a tower of strength against the enemy. Let me dwell in Your tent forever; let me take refuge in the shelter of Your wings.
*Gloria Patri No. 734
Glory be to the Father,
And to the Son,
And to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning,
Is now, and ever shall be,
World without end. Amen, Amen.
*Prayer of Invocation
*Hymn How Marvelous, How Wise, How Great (inside back cover)
Public Confession
O Lord, we are compelled to confess our sins as we are reminded of Your majesty
And the inheritance that now belongs to us in Christ Jesus.
Forgive all our sins, we ask,
And cause us to love righteousness.
Help us, O God, to speak edifying words
And to extend compassion to those in need.
Help us to order our steps so that we show the presence of grace in our lives
And give testimony to the power of the gospel.
Come to our aid, heavenly Father, in our struggles with sin.
Equip us to do Your holy will.
Words of Assurance Romans 5:6-8
While we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Response In Thee, O Lord, I Put My Trust (inside front cover)

*Doxology No. 731
Praise God from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heav’nly host:
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Amen.
*Declaring Our Faith Westminster Confession (Christ the Mediator)
Who is the Mediator between God and man?
It pleased God, in His eternal purpose, to choose and ordain the Lord Jesus, His only begotten Son, to be the Mediator between God and man, the Prophet, Priest, and King, the Head and Savior of His Church, the Heir of all things, and Judge of the world.
What did the Son of God, as our Mediator, do?
The Son of God, the second person in the Trinity, being very and eternal God, of one substance and equal with the Father, did, when the fullness of time was come, take upon Him man’s nature with all the essential properties and common infirmities thereof, yet without sin.
How did our Mediator take upon Himself our nature?
Our Mediator was conceived by the power of the Holy Ghost, in the womb of the virgin Mary, of her substance.
Pastoral Prayer
*Responsive Reading Psalm 142
I cry aloud with my voice to the Lord;
I make supplication with my voice to the Lord.
I pour out my complaint before Him;
I declare my trouble before Him.
When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, You knew my path.
In the way where I walk they have hidden a trap for me.
Look to the right and see; for there is no one who regards me;
There is no escape for me; no one cares for my soul.
I cried out to You, O Lord; I said, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.”
“Give heed to my cry, for I am brought very low; deliver me from my persecutors, for they are too strong for me.”
“Bring my soul out of prison, so that I may give thanks to Your name”;
“The righteous will surround me, for You will deal bountifully with me.”
